High Elongation Fabric


This high elongation PVC coated fabric is formulated and designed for wrapping tight radius parts with no texture lost or deformation. It is designed to support a variety of applications including seating, headrests, map pockets, consoles, doors and instrument panels. This high stretch material provides a leather like look and feel in any color, accommodates high strain without tearing making it easy to implement stitching applications, and meets sun load requirements. The estimated cost is $2 USD a sq. ft. less than leather.

Grained Roof Ditch Moldings


Usually, a grain appearance in extruded parts is achieved via embossing rollers confining the look to the top surface of the part only. This unique PVC material development has the grain in the material enabling a grain appearance throughout the part, including the sides of the extrusion, without secondary operations required. This enables greater styling options for interior and exterior part designs at less cost. A 10% direct cost savings is associated with this innovation through process efficiency and lower equipment maintenance costs. Approximately $30K cost avoidance savings annually is directly associated with this innovation. it is scratch and mar resistant, weatherable, co-extrudable and it also bonds to metal.

A-Side Scoring in Seamless Leather FIP IP


For seamless-leather IP applications, positional tolerance between the leather scoring line and the underlayment PVC skin's scoring line was reduced 80% vs. conventional Class B weakening methods. This patent-pending method significantly improved deployment performance for seamless leather FIP systems, which led to substantial validation savings.

Louvered Side Window

This first-to-market application features 3 glass panes encapsulated via PVC injection molding to create a louvered panel for the rear quarter window replacing metal. Glass panes are held in place with the rigid injection molding framework creating a high-tech appearance that can be seen through. It also reduces wind noise and drag, lowers mass and costs, and speeds assembly time.  Low-pressure, multi-gate tooling and the ability to locate and retain the 3 glass panels during the injection-molding process were all key to the success of this application.

Logo Projector Lamp


Traditional door-panel lamps use incandescent lights and require significant package space, so must be designed at the same time as the door.  Their location also provides high risk of damage since they are susceptible to kicks during ingress/egress. Additionally, they have no projection feature to shine light on the ground.  A new LED-based design works on left- and right-side doors and projects a logo to the ground when the door is open.  Logo orientation is poka-yoked (fail-safed) by holes in the panel substrate.  Far less package space is required so it fits on panels <4 mm / 0.16 in., no metallic fasteners are needed, and the risk of damage is greatly reduced since it is not exposed when the door is open or closed.

Seamless Passenger Airbag IP Topper


This seamless passenger-airbag IP topper molded from vinyl provides a cost-effective alternative to more costly leather and synthetic-leather materials made from urethane while providing upscale aesthetics.  A special topcoat is used to provide a low-squeak finish and to improve mar resistance. Like previous materials, cut & sew stitching and hand wrapping via a bladder press (for bonding) are used to join cover material to substrate.  No tooling changes were required.
