This is the first use
of high-flow nylon on a structural powertrain
application. The 30%-GR, high-flow nylon 6 air-inlet manifold is also the
largest nylon part in automotive. Versus standard-flow grades, the new grade
offered 80% higher flow and corresponding productivity improvements without
significant loss of mechanical properties. Higher flow facilitates design
optimization, allows for lower injection pressures, and produces parts with
reduced molded-in-stress. It also has a faster crystallization rate, which
shortens cooling time and reduces warp and distortion. The result is
high-quality moldings with lower scrap that can be molded on smaller presses at
lower energy consumption. Its increased
efficiency mean fewer tools are needed to meet production demand.
