Composite Bumper Beam

A thinner, lower mass bumper beam with improved impact performance was achieved via press-molded GMT composites thanks to use of a both chopped glass and glass fabric reinforcements featuring enhanced fiberglass/PP interface attained using a new coupling agent and coating material, plus optimized fiber alignment.  By enhancing the beam's crash-energy dispersion and absorption effectiveness, repair costs were improved, weight was lowered 15.5%, and fuel efficiency also benefited. Existing tools were used with the new material.
