This passenger footwell lamp bracket overcame tough design
constraints including tight package space and short program timing, lack of
appropriate attachment points, need for specific lamp orientation for optimal
lighting while keeping light source hidden, plus need to ensure durability and
vibration did not affect light quality. By adopting the cross-car beam geometry
as a fixation point, the injection-molded PP bracket optimized light
distribution, replaced a welded metal bracket at 50% lower mass and $3.50 USD /
vehicle cost savings. Since the design avoids the need for tooling action, it
also contributed to $150,000 USD tooling cost avoidance.
