Knock-out Plug Assist for Foam-In-Place Armrest

A knock-out plug was added to this foam-in-place armrest to avoid foam bleed-through and to provide a hole opening/stress initiation area required to meet safety requirements so the door armrest provides optimal energy absorption in a lateral crash. The plug is easily removed with a screwdriver and provides a smooth fit & finish to meet Ford craftsmanship requirements. Tooling modification allows the feature to be retrofit. This patented feature saves approximately $12 USD/door by allowing PVC instead of wrapped vinyl to be used and eliminating the need for wrapping nests.
